About Your Resident Foodie

One of my favorite things to do is find the best restaurants....whether its in where we live or during our travels. Many times concierges and websites form partnerships with restaurants in exchange for discounts, advertising, etc. When this happens the client does not always receive the best information. We like to know where the locals eat. Therefore, I created this blog to help other people find the best restaurants...no partnerships, no deals, simply our honest opinions. Enjoy!

Abattoir

I had the privilege of eating at my favorite restaurant again last week, and it inspired me to share it with all of you. The restaurant is Abattoir. It is located close to our house in West Midtown in the old meat packing plant. Abattoir is French for slaughterhouse. Its name has a double meaning: first, for its location and second, for its concept of "whole animal cuisine," meaning they use "every functional piece of the animal." I know it sounds gross, but it is truly amazing!

We have been to Abattoir several times, and every time it was delicious. Everything is locally grown, and they specialize in a farm to table philosophy. The last time I was there I enjoyed fresh raw organic veggies in a jar as an appetizer, followed by Kobe flatiron steak, roasted organic vegetables and Heirloom tomatoes grown by one of the chefs. I am still thinking about this meal! I want to go eat it right now!

The sleek French Country decor always has me wanting to stay there all night. You have to go to the bathroom while you are there. The trough sinks with rain faucets make it one of my favorite bathrooms in the city. Every detail about the restaurant sings to me...even the dish cloth napkins. I love them and want them for our house. What makes Abattoir even better is that the incredible service. Everyone is very nice and works as a team. I can't get enough!

Go check out our favorite restaurant and call us when you go....we want to join you!!

  1. We love Abattoir; it is one of our favorite hometown restaurants! The homemade beef jerky, fresh bread, and wine is out-of-this-world. A MUST try!
